2011 Brits ring (some) changes

POSTED Feb 17, 2011

New Brits Chairman David Joseph's revamp of the awards produced both a few surprises as well as a few old chestnuts...

Joseph's overhaul of the 1000-member voting academy - which this year included actual musicians for the first time in addition to the usual gaggle of record industry types - may have had some effect.

Folk singer-songwriter Laura Marling (pictured) accepted the award for best British female solo artist whilst fellow folkies Mumford and Sons picked up Best British Album award for their debut Sigh No More,

Current Dig Music featured artists Plan B got the gong for best British male solo artist while the BBC's Sound of 2011 winner Jessie J took home the prize for best newcomer.

Some things never change though...manufactured Boy Band-turned-rebuilt-middle-aged-bloke-band Take That were named best British Group, and of course Justin Bieber won something too.
