Brian May with Patrick Moore

Full-time stargazer: Brian May?

POSTED Dec 19, 2012

Leading UK astronomy professors are calling for Queen’s Brian May to hang up his guitar and pick up the telescope full time for the BBC.

Earlier this month, Sir Patrick Moore, the long serving host of BBC1 astronomy program Sky At Night passed away at the age of 89.

Academics in the UK have flagged the Queen guitarist as his obvious replacement: “Both of them have a terrific gift for communication, which I must say I am quite jealous of. Brian is an enthusiast for astronomy, exactly like Patrick” said Professor David Southwood of the Royal Astronomical Society.

Brian May completed his PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College in 2007 and was a close friend of Sir Moore.
